saw this van on the way home last night and the lightbulb of recognition or whatever went on, so i wobbled to a stop to take the pic. this took more time than i'd previously supposed cause after i put my bags down, i was like swaying in place and cause my vision was so blurry and threw me off, i couldn't tell whether i was swaying due to the Absinthe or cause i was bopping around to '
Converted' blasting into my ears. not just the one on
Exile but all of them: the
officially released ones plus all the bootlegs, live gigs and remixes on continuous rotation in a lit-tle album i made just for the iPod. nb: believe it or not, i haven't listened to the band in months.
here comes the ADD: it's a shame, really. each and every one of Alabama 3's Amazon pages should be filled with glowing reviews by fans and for years already (at least since 2003 when we all first talked about it) but nothing — LOL, bupkis, Jake — well, there's nothing apart from Chris and my reviews way back when, in Bonn. i did
Exile, Reachin' and Mansion on the Hill and i forgot which Chris did, prolly La Peste and PITB but too lazy to look. anyway, that's the reason i quit caring as well as why Larry calls us
The Weeping Women Of The Web. *snigger* nah, LMFAO remembering The Needless Explanation On The Tourbus, something i'd already figured out the first time i read those six words, told him so and went on to say 'big duh, Rob!' :-) LOL, the look on his face! ;-) oh wow, i just remembered we're all going to
Outlaw at Dirty South to see em in less than three weeks, hoorah! but i digress.
back to last night, i fumbled for my camera-phone, pleased that my legs had finally quit wobbling. walking on Absinthe is fine but standing in one place without swaying (at best) isn't part of the deal. well, unless you drink less than i do. ha, let's not go there now. anyway, i'm standing there waiting for my eyes to focus, staring at that red thing in the logo. what is it?
'Is that a dagger I see before me?' a birdie? a stylised old-time hypodermic? WTF? anyway, for some strange reason i can't quite put into words,
it spoke to me, both the red thing and the title and i found myself nodding in agreement, thinking of the countless times i breathlessly said the same thing —
aahhhh... pharmaceuticals — most always with a stupidly beatific look on my face.

but it's a reasonable facsimile of 'happy' and AFAIC, that's all that matters. with that outta the way, let's move on and quickly cause i feel the flu coming on — yes, a-
gain — and I. Don't. Like. It. *ka-CHOOEY* dammit. }-(
OK, i've been watching
Stephen Fry in America again. AFAIC, it's way better to have
the book as well, cause i've been pausing the flick every so often and reading all the lovely, frequently hilarious details that were left off the DVDs. in truth, i wouldn't have minded if the entire book was in the programme cause then instead of only six hours, it would've been, at the very least, twice as long and just like everything else i dig (not a lot), i can't get too much of Mr Fry.
anyway, as anyone who's ever heard him knows, he's way quotable — kinda like Oscar Wilde but different. fun fact:
Wilde was the film that first made me aware of Stephen, way back when in NYC when i snagged it outta — of all ridiculous places — a discount bin somewhere. *rolls eyes* and then i fell in love with him, thanks to both the film and Google, but that's another story. *sigh*

as i said, i kept pausing the film both to read as well as take notes (a habit i picked up at film school), but this drove Kate totally crazy cause it messed with her sense of continuity (or so she said). after i quit tsk-ing, i told her she should really encourage any ADD that might be lying latent, cause that's the only way she'd be able to keep up with me as well as keep her stupid sense of continuity. then we LOL'd, had another hit or three and kept stuffing our faces and drinking. more, even. right, here's Stephen in Las Vegas:
'The extremity of Sin City, as it used to proudly call itself, is itself extreme. A symbol of human kind's perverse, remorseless will, a symbol of cupidity exploiting stupidity, of capitalism taken to its furthest limits, of gullibility, fallibility, optimism, cruelty, vulgarity and greed. Some find themselves so grossed out, so appalled and frightened by what Las Vegas is that they turn tail and run, never to return'.apart from it reminding me of something Hunter S Thompson might've said, that was so totally me when i was 19 and made the mistake of driving through Vegas and then had a temper tantrum until i got my way and we didn't stop there. unfortunately, i had to give in to some degree cause after my tantrum, nobody'd talk to me. we ended up in Reno (or 'Las Vegas Lite') so my friends could gamble, one of the few vices that never held any attraction for me. i stayed in the van, sulking and practising not saying 'toldja so' whilst they lost a small fortune. but money was easy to come by back then since we'd mastered the Art of Noting, sump'n i totally won't go into until i find out the statute of limitations in Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico and California.
back to Stephen, at one point he ended up playing a role in a Spy Game, some bonding adventure crap (which no doubt costs a $hit£oad). i was just as baffled about Spy Games as he was; i believe it's a strange American custom to which corporations subscribe, big businesses intending to bring their teams of employees closer together. *rolls eyes* now IMO, unless you love your job, why anyone would wanna get closer to their colleagues is way beyond me. i've always said, 'the workplace is like the only situation in which i'm forced to be civil to people, especially those to whom i wouldn't give the time of day if i saw them in the street'. shit, wittering again. anyway, amongst many others, here's another Fry quote that resonated within, so take it away, Stephen:
'If there's a word that makes me shudder with revulsion, it's "fun"...'upon first hearing (and second and third), i thought i'd LMAO in the usual 'it's funny cause it's true' kinda way. anyway, those are your Words of Wisdom for today, so happy sunday, pass the pharmaceuticals add dod't forget to thigk of be as i'be coughig ad sdeezig by head off. yes, a-
Gaid, dammid. *ka-CHOOEY!*
