a-skeered straight. not.

well, at least, 'a-skeered clean' so please bear with me whilst my ADD, way too muchly enhanced by the damned Asperger's, does its thing – whatever the hell that happens to be at any given moment. yup, it's something i haven't yet figured out, but when i do, rest assured y'all'll be the first to kno- oh wait – i know this one, actually. it's like a procrastination thingy, thanks to something i quote from quite liberally way below, when i'd put off my main point as long as i possibly could.

before i go on, thanks for all the mails lately, they help more than you'll ever really know, cause nobody knows. well, that's a lie cause in truth, three of The Usual Suspect dudes do (the youngest one, thanks to a moment of weakness on my part yesterday – um, my bad, d00d). right, and Stress Counsellor dude. *to self* i should tattoo it on my forehead, actually... hmmm, just a thought.

i love it, that's so me in the morning. anyway, just off the phone with Chris. he named grrls' names to add to TUS and then wouldn't tell me more; he actually refused to play my guessing game. bastard. uh...soz, Babe, that was feigned anger so let's put a stop to that rumor right now. *giggle*

tangentially, yes, i'm a moron (that goes without saying and i'd be first on the queue with my hand up and all, yessing myself to death, if such a question were posed). where was i? right.

OK, my first title was even more insipid and trite but after a line or three, i remembered i'm only blethering away now to put off the point and so, regarding misdirection, dig: in proper ADD form, 'scared straight' zapped me to the remembrance that within some circles, 'straight' is one of the synonyms for 'clean' as in living sans drugs e.g., 'I've been clean for x (number of) years' = 'I've been straight for x (number of) years'.

personally, i know of no such people – apart from two recently met loved ones, and they weren't scared, they chose. anyway, as per usual, i met them thanks to (one guess now) Free A3. right, back to Scared Straight, '...a documentary directed by Arnold Shapiro and released in 1978.

'The subject of the documentary was a group of cocky teenaged juvenile delinquents and the attempts to make them end their criminal ways by introducing them to actual convicts. Filmed at Rahway State Prison, a group of inmates known as the "lifers" berate, scream at, and terrify the young hoodlums and attempt to "scare them straight" (hence the film's title) by showing an ugly, harsh presentation of the realities of prison life. At film's end, the teenagers decide that they don't want to end up in jail...'

*snigger* pussies. i used to be a counsellor at a half-way house in New London, CT and dealt, not only with prisoners who were still so institutionalised that they just couldn't get the hang of the idea that no, if they needed another roll of TP, they most certainly did not have to ask my permission; just grab it outta the supplies room. i think it was at that gig that i perfected the frozen smile.

anyway, that 'scared straight' shit would so not go down with me. i remember my mother dragging me (literally dragging, not by the hair but pretty much nearly) to some therapist way back when, someone who'd had some ex-lifer as a client. he'd been sentenced for murder; he was guilty but out of prison on a technicality.

anyway, he tried to tell me what was gonna happen to me if i kept up my lifestyle. he also had issues with the way i dressed which was the 60s version of how i look now: hiphuggers (as they called them) but not bellbottoms, T-shirt and Cons or boots. 'oh how i laughed...' (and i did, after warning him first and asking his pardon and explaining how i didn't mean to offend him). he even had issues with the beatnik v. hippie thing. *rolls eyes*

i went on, barely able to keep the smirk off my face, went on cause i could see where he was about to go and he didn't know me the way i knew me. he wasn't amused. i couldn't quit LOL and hadda keep reminding him he was wasting his time. he ended up telling the therapist and my mother he'd never met any kid with such strong will power, which killed me cause i never thought i had any of that. will power, that is. still don't, actually. anyway.

what the fuck am i trying to say? right, somehow i'm making a very tenuous connection – it doesn't take much Ⓒ ᵀᴹ – so here are my little furry friends who watch over me from up top the wardrobe. not scared straight but washed clean. yeah, i know i'm stretching the metaphor or whatever but in truth, i know people are like looking for clues. i keep forgetting what D Wayne said about misdirection (and i used to know all that stuff by heart). *snigger* rotsa ruck as they say in NYC. anyway, here're Heathrow and Chelsea yesterday:

Heathrow and Chelsea today:

Chiswick before:

Chiswick after:

yeah, i know the grey fur doesn't really reflect the former filth but believe me, when seen in person there's a big dif. here's Kensington, Oxford and Fawney Rigg.

why two of Fawney? c'mon, y'all know me to be an attention whore right? unhelpful hint: obviously Fawney's a lion. BTW, i still really haven't come up with proper names for these next liddle dudes yet, regardless of what i called them on FreeA3 some months ago.

here's my latest liddle guy, who was named the only thing i think totally fits.

one easy-peasey guess: it's Bear of course, but pronounced in two syllables a la D Wayne's 'I can't see the setlist cos it's covered in bee-yuh'.

*ducks* anyway, all the above was to put off something which i believe way important, but like all other things deemed crucial, especially stuff that applies to me personally with painful obviousity, my procrastination gland blooms bigtime, takes over and then i suddenly realise it's the perfect time to do that research on F W Murneau i've been putting off or dick about with my plush toys and the like (y'all should see the pornographic poses i shot 'em in – just sayin' cause nobody ever will). or else i could talk about their histories and when and how i acquired them (two are real Beanie Babies – did they have them over here?). right, it's established: i'm Princess of Procrastination Nation. naturally the next stop is Hoovering above the bedroom wardrobes complete with fascinating details of same with photos. (nb: the Hoovering is true but the photos bit isn't.)

right, one of the less pornographic ones i took:

OK, let's get down to cases: someone – i wish i could remember who it was; i've been through all my incoming mails but must've trashed it accidentally cause i just can't find it so thank you Unknown Sender. anyway, this week i was sent a really compelling article from The Guardian: It's Not Just Boys Who Are Autistic (my first reaction upon reading the headline was like 'no shit, Sherlock'). as i kinda said in the 'graph above, it was painful, well, in truth rather gruelling, nay, it was excruciating to read. some of the more agonising bits, stuff that truly stung (as in 'the truth hurts muchly'):

'When it was first discovered more than 60 years ago, Asperger's syndrome was thought to be a male-only condition. But now that more and more girls are being diagnosed with it, why do we hear so little about them?...'

blah blah blah and more pertinence, my emphasis bolded: '..."the stuff I was interested in seemed even more weird in a girl than a boy. It was mostly computers and music with me – boys can get away with being a bit obsessive, but it seems more strange in a girl."...

'When Hans Asperger first described autism in 1944, he initially believed that he had discovered a condition that only affected boys. As Asperger himself went on to realise, there are girls and women with autism, and more recently their numbers have been growing, along with the incidence of autism in general. For these women, the diagnosis can be a double whammy. Not only do they have a disorder whose causes are unclear and the treatment of which is still controversial, but it is even less recognised in females.

'Women and girls tend to be pushed to the sidelines of any coverage of autism and Asperger's syndrome, their experience purged from the public eye, making those who experience the disorder even more cut-off and misunderstood than their male peers...

'...Dr Lorna Wing is a veteran psychiatrist who devoted her career to studying autism after her only child, Susie, was diagnosed with a severe form of the condition. She says girls on the autistic spectrum often appear "normal" at first meeting.

"They appear to be more social than boys with autism, but then you notice their sociability tends to be inappropriate," she says. "They might go on and on talking about the things they are interested in, and they fail to notice that you're not remotely interested. They have a poor ability to 'read' people, and that's something that's often very highly developed in females."...

'...
more and more women are coming forward for diagnosis who have struggled all their life to "fit in", and who, time and again, have found themselves wanting. For women such as this, having their "oddity" validated, acknowledged and, to some extent, explained, can be life-changing.

'Selina Postgate, 53, always knew she was different: but it was only last summer that she finally found out why. "Knowing I have Asperger's syndrome has changed everything in my world," she says. "It's made me realise who I really am, and why I think differently."

'If the diagnosis had come earlier in her life, Postgate believes she would have been a lot more successful. "
I've never managed to do the things I've wanted to do," she says. "I've done very little with my life professionally and I could have done a lot more if I'd understood myself."...

'..."
I have achieved practically nothing. Relationships, like jobs, have gone out of the window – I've not had the self-awareness to hold down either."...

it was at that point i began to cry. a lot. when i finally composed myself, i read on and was immediately sorry i did. yeah, boo-fuckin' hoo; i, for one, hate self-pity and i always get angry when i think anyone's feeling even a whiff of it for me.

'...Because autism has probably been underdiagnosed in women, and because study of the condition only stretches back a few decades, very little is known about how it pans out for women in later life. According to Wing, there are plenty of indications that the disorder is exacerbated by hormonal disruption – and while that has been documented around puberty in both females and males, less is known about what happens around the menopause'.

i was sitting here, reading, sobbing and thinking and when i got up to the end of the above, my innermost voice totally, in unison, echoed this next:

'In the case of Wing's daughter, the menopause was to trigger a worsening of her condition...'

one more time, with feeling: NO SHIT, SHERLOCK! *mirthless laughter* ask any of my friends, those to whom i write and those with whom i speak in meatspace and we'll all attest that 'worsening' is like a mild euphemism. but i'll leave off there.

as i said above, my kvelling over my plush toys was my way of totally putting this off, putting off the stating of stuff, had the PTB only been aware back in Olden Times when i went to school, my life would've been waaaay the fuck different. one example: i've never spoken much about playing bass and being lead singer of The Hardeners; that's cause it pains me muchly, i self-sabotaged that one and to this day, don't know whether i did on purpose or not, but hey.

moving raaaaght alawng, apart from read the article, i've nothing much to say tonight apart from the usual and most heartfelt thank-yous, so here we go: thank you Mr and Mrs Ifor The Engine for all your hard work (including bearing up and being gracious due to my total fuckwittery); thanks to Abeizer for the Lost Highway info and illo, thanks to Angie for the txts; in all actuallity your extended comm very much surprised me and actually helped me, somewhat.

lastly not leastly, thank you, Mark, especially today for listening to the latest episode of my rimoaning and being all Mark and patient and stuff, but one thing, dude: i know you're the last person to believe in things like this but our little mix-up with friday's 'All systems go'– it's just more proof of the damage that can happen when Mercury's in retrograde, as it is now.

*ducks* yup, i know you think i'm a dumbass for believing in that stuff even though i really don't but this week alone, with all the miscommnications beween the two of us as well as me and practically everyone else i've spoken to, well, there's at least a kernel of truth in it. and of course, dude, you're gonna believe what you're gonna believe and i respect you (and everyone else) for that; for sticking to their beliefs and wouldn't wanna change anyone to my kinda thinking, not unless y'all have experienced the horrors of missed and mixed messages which've been told me over the last two weeks alone. all this stuff is just too much to be labelled coincidence.

right, big thanks to Chris, who actually cared enough to keep me on the phone for like half an hour just a little while ago. silly boy; he calls himself a 'stubborn Polack' but even he'll admit that though i only have a bit of Poland in my bloodstream, i'm way the hell more stubborn than he ever imagined. and i repeat: Chris, you iz silly to even think i'll listen to you, not whilst we were together and certainly not now. that is, with one caveat that i can say without fear of being called to the carpet. it's gonna take a miracle and since i don't believe in fairy tales, including miracles, it ain't gonna happen. soz, dude. *snigger* this is me.

what's blasting: All My Life by Steve Earle, off Transcendental Blues (buy here).

anhedonia of the spirits

way back before teh Internetz, Anhedonia of the Spirits was a character in one of my screenplays, the one that actually made it to celluloid. i wrote her totally based on me; i mean, big duh – who didn't know that already? anyway, fast forward to the 90s and when mulling over a screen-name, i thought of her instantly and wanted to use her. well, for less than 5 minutes before discarding the idea in favor of my first inclination: being all SG.

i trashed Anhedonia cause variations of 'anhedonic' all hit just a lit-tle too close to home and both the 'slum' and the 'goddess' are such a total joke. and i might be wrong, but i thought of things like unintended consequences and then anticipated being asked stuff like 'what, exactly, does the damn word mean?' and i certainly didn't wanna go there, not with anyone, mostly cause i hate thinking people are stupid even though i know, for the most part, most of them are. well, apart from my friends, of course but hey.

but i do use 'anhedonic'; at least i use a variation of it, part of which is above in the title. it's what my name is as subscriber over at the NYTimes, when i signed up way back when, lo these many years ago, in 1998. and i spelt it as if it were a first and last name (i shall leave the deciding of this, what my subscriber name is, up to youse). but i totally digress.

hmmm... *thinking* moving right along, one might ask: 'how did your day go today, rimone?' well, lessee... i woke up at the glorious hour of like 15,00 or 16,00 – i actually can't remember now but that detracted from my sadness but only a bit for just a small while. then i got word that my Usability proposal was accepted, something that would send me into total joy in normal times but i was all 'meh' and in truth, still am about it. yup, here we go again: iz stawree of mai lief akshually, filed under 'innapropriate reactions' and y'all know where the door is: only a click away.

about the rest of the day? apart from doing actua£ work and spending way too long at FreeA3 where i had to force myself into a semblance of, if not happy, then 'OK', after talking to Mark a bit, i wrote in iambic pentameter and wandered off, pacing through the flat whilst thinking (always inspirational – the pacing not the wandering). at one point, i found myself in the bedroom where i gazed up, checking Those Who Watch Over Me, my plush toys who live on top of the wardrobe and keep me safe whilst i sleep.

*snigger* that reminds me of a few Summers ago when Hunter was like three or four months old, only a little kitteh who'd recently discovered he could jump and whoa, he could've won awards for that shit. anyway, i called his name and looked all over but didn't know he had learnt to play Hide & Seek. i only found him when i heard a tiny sound, then thought to look above the wardrobes where he'd gone into ET mode.

anyway, dunno if i ever mentioned it but way back when, i named my plush toys after places in England. they're quite amusing, at least i think so, and the reasons i named them thus was cause i never thought i'd ever make it here. yes i know – it doesn't make sense and it doesn't take much but at the best of times, neither do i.

anyway, i'm thinking in iambic pentameter whilst looking above at my keepers tonight, and i once again noticed how damn filthy they'd gotten, rather, how dirty i'd let them become. i felt bad.

this happened mostly cause our bedroom in Bonn overlooked a small parking lot for the very few flat-dwellers as well as those who stayed in the hotel next door. when you looked straight out the bedroom windows, it was as if you were living in the trees, which i loved. but when you glanced downwards, then you got to see shitloads of tyre tracks in the dirt. and then they had the absolute nerve to cut down this 200 year old Aspen and bingo, i was no more living in the trees.

but the point is, all that in-and-out traffic, quiet as it was, caused soot and exhaust fumes to filthy up my lit-tle friends which pissed me off muchly, much more than i care to remember.

and so, tonight i bit the bullet and did what i should've done years ago. i began with Wandsworth, who was a rather unpleasant shade of grey and black but here he is now.

my reasons for not cleaning them had to do with my fear they'd fall apart in the washing machine. i even took them, first to a dry cleaner's in Bonn and then to one here in Bristol but each told me they feared my plush friends would be destroyed. anyway, as i said, i bit the bullet and threw Wandsworth in and prayed. when he emerged intact, even after the dryer, that was that and i continued with Victoria and Stepney.

soz, dudes, but we need a bit of comparison. and so, Chiswick's next and then come Heathrow and Chelsea.

before Wandsworth was cleaned, he looked a bit like Heathrow – but worse. anyway, i have many more in my little menagerie, like Oxford and Kensington and even Fawney Rigg.

why am i talking about plush toys instead of more important things? like the fact i managed to finish an actual poem in iambic pentameter, something i'm totally proud of, a coupla lines of which are:

'Deracinated urban detritus hangs in the air, a leaf caught in the breeze...'

naturally, it's all about me. but pretentious – moi? LOL, never! i'ze only noes i'ze kewl an i'ze speshull – y'know, a breed apart, as in 'Open up your mind and go your own way!'

and if y'all believe my shit, well, damn... something's very very wrong, but... whatever. *snort* anyway, i shall leave you with the thought – nah, those of you who're left can work it out for yourselves (musical clues below). LOL, here's hoping. *clink!*

what's blasting: Preachin' Blues (Robert Johnson) and something a bit different, Breed Apart (Sepultura). if y'all play 'em back to back, then maybe, just maybe you'll get my point. anyway, happy weekend, y'all. *snigger* no, all sniggering aside, i rilly, rilly mean it. rilly – soz, i mean REALLY. day-umn... :-)

i was there when they crucified the lord...

it all seems like yesterday when Alabama 3 played my adopted hometown of beautiful Bristol although in reality, it was like over a month back, on 27. april. i'd been all totally spoingy and bouncing off the walls for weeks – just like everyone else – when i finally forced myself to sit down and begin to write Let The Night Roar! very early at about 03,00 the morning of the gig itself.

i was still verily stoked, after the afterparty the next day just about when my eyesight and voice returned, when i wrote 'here's the one and only living legend, Rock Freebase (hey, don't blame me – that's what one chick came up to him and called him last night)...' here's some of the too-teeny tiny pics i took: first Mark at Chez Hunter, then a few hours later as Rock Freebase onstage.

hours later, just after Mark left for the soundcheck i wrote 'as usual i'm expecting a flatful of people and hoorah for that ... there'll be Chris (YES!), Lazybones ... Electric Landlady, Dave, Mississippi Outlaw (flying in from the States)...' and a number of others.

the thing with being a witness to the spectacle of the fantastic stage show performed by the band The Guardian calls 'The Best Live Band In The Country' is, these dudes and Devlin leave a lingering spoing, like a wondrous, as-yet undiscovered drug, that lasts and lasts and lasts... and sustains flashbacks of the very best kind at moments when you least expect it.

Mississippi Outlaw just mailed me gifts of those moments, a number of flashbacks to that terrific night of the gig, when he flew in from the States to join the tour and stayed over at Chez Hunter with us for the Bristol show where he took these fabaroo photos. please click on each to totally enlarge. here's Zoe, rather Devlin Love, the 21st century's answer to Billie Holliday.

LOL, you can actually see the top of my reddish-pink and dark haired head, at lower left. anyway, click on the next to totally engorge and actually see Devlin (Voice of an Angel with An Attitude) Love halo'ing Rock Freebase in one of the very highest highlights of their current shows, again in Bristol and the best photo i've seen of this moment yet.

'...I was there when they crucified the lord...'

Mississippi Outlaw: 'Everytime I hear that phrase during "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash", I think about the trip and see this image while listening to the song. Also now when hearing "being on the guestlist on a Saturday night" from Techno it means something to me. Thank Rock for that one...'

LOL, i fucking love it. Mississippi dude, y'all just did. :-)

what's blasting: Hello, I'm Johnny Cash and Johnny Cash (Know His Name) off Outlaw and Outlaw Remixes. enjoy, all youse outlaws out in them thar hinterlands and thank you so kindly, M.O. for the glorious reoccurrences. *love*

RIP Bo Diddley (1928 – 2008)

bah, more reason to keep on sliding down the slippery slope to nowheresland, the deepest, darkest and dead-coldest level of all my depression. one of the founding fathers – if not, at least IMO, the main architect – of Rock & Roll has totally left the building of which he was a major factor in the construction.

Bo Diddley (30. december 1928 – 2. june 2008) '...was an American rock and roll singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Often cited as a key figure in the transition from blues to rock and roll, he introduced more insistent, driving rhythms and a hard-edged guitar sound. He was also known for his characteristic rectangular guitar...'

fascinating trashy truth from above wiki: '...On November 20, 1955, he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show only to infuriate the host. "I did two songs and he got mad," Bo Diddley later recalled. "Ed Sullivan said that I was one of the first colored boys to ever double-cross him. Said that I wouldn't last six months". Bo Diddley was asked to sing Tennessee Ernie Ford's hit "Sixteen Tons", but when he appeared on stage, he sang "Bo Diddley." He was banned from further appearances...'

only in 50s amer- shit, nah, only in amerika. what killed Ed was the fact that (and i'm basing this on his own use of 'colored') Bo was Black and thus to ES, a non-person. BTW, Sullivan's the same dipshit who forced Brian Jones and the Stones to agree to change Jagger's lyrics in Satisfaction when they did it on one of his shows in the mid-60s. if i remember rightly (and there's more than a good chance i don't), at first, the Stones obeyed but by the time the 2nd chorus came round, Jagger sung it as heard on the record, thus pissing off the always infuriated fambly-friendly Sullivan (who later on ate his words when he read that show's Nielsen ratings). but back to the stuff i stole from Bo Diddley's wiki.

'...Muddy Waters' "Mannish Boy" (originally "Mannish Boy") was an adaptation of Bo Diddley's "I'm a Man" and also an answer song, the title being Muddy Waters' take on his younger rival...'

Bo's death is so damn depressing to me thanks to being turned onto him when i was like 8 or 9 by my way older friends in the Village, those from whom i got hipped to everything they thought required, everything cool. my mentors gave me quite the education, teaching me their – our – culture, encompassing stuff assumed inappropriate for a little white girl from middle-class Brooklyn.

back then, i would've never known there was a vast underbelly to mainstream American culture but they taught me everything they knew, from music to art to films and literature; everything that'd never be seen within the pages of Life magazine, a glossy rag delivered every week to my parents' home as well as the monthly Reader's Digests, which should give y'all a sense of the tone of the scene there: booo-oooring! *in a Homer voice* – and part of why i felt compelled to escape, but i digress.

fun SG fact: the first tune i ever heard by the Stones was 'Not Fade Away' at a time when my classmates and sister were in the midst of the insanity that was Beatlemania, something that only attracted me due to them being English and having long hair. when first hearing NFA and not ever interested neither in Elvis nor Buddy Holly (mainly cause they were white – don't ask, i'll never STFU about certain elements of my former ethos, some of which remain in my mindset today), anyway, i thought they stole the sound straight from Bo.

'..."Not Fade Away" is a song written by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty ... the song's rhythm pattern is one of the classic examples of the Bo Diddley beat...'

the Bo Diddley Beat: '...a rumba-like beat ... similar to "hambone", a style used by street performers who play out the beat by slapping and patting their arms, legs, chest, and cheeks while chanting rhymes. Referred to as a "shave and a haircut" beat, Diddley came across it while trying to play Gene Autry's "(I've Got Spurs That) Jingle, Jangle, Jingle"...

'...In its simplest form, the Bo Diddley beat can be counted out as a two-bar phrase: "One and two and three and four and one and two and three and four and..." The bolded counts are the clave rhythm.

'...His songs (for example, "
Hey Bo Diddley" and "Who Do You Love?") often have no chord changes; that is, the musicians play the same chord throughout the piece, so that the rhythms create the excitement, rather than having the excitement generated by harmonic tension and release...'

back to 'Not Fade Away': '...This features the "Bo Diddley Beat" - dun, da-dun, da-dun, da-dun, dun. The Stones toured with Diddley in England before recording this. Charlie Watts: "We did it with a Bo Diddley beat, which at the time was very avant garde for a white band to be playing Bo Diddley's stuff. It was a very popular rhythm for us in clubs; looking at it from the drumming point of view. So we did it in this slightly different way than Buddy Holly did it."

'Their manager, Andrew Oldham, was convinced the Stones would be successful after hearing what they did with this. Said Oldham: "Although it was a Buddy Holly song, I considered it to be like the first song Mick and Keith wrote, in that they picked the concept of applying that Bo Diddley thing to it. The way they arranged it was the beginning of the shaping of them as songwriters. ...

'... it was one of those magical moments. When Keith played that to me in the front room you could actually HEAR the record in that room. What basically made the record was that whole Bo Diddley acoustic guitar thrust. You heard the whole record in one room. We gotta record it! But there's no way if someone had just said coldly, Right, let's do "Not Fade Away" that we would have wanted to do it without hearing the way that Keith was playing it on the guitar. Keith just did it. And that was that...'

from here: '...In '63 [Bo] co-headlined a U.K. tour with the Everly Brothers; opening the bill were the as-yet-unheralded Rolling Stones. "Watching Bo Diddley was university for me," Keith Richards recently told Rolling Stone, referring to that tour. "Every set was 20 minutes long. When he came off, if he had two strings left on his guitar it was a fuckin' miracle."...'

what's blasting: 'Mannish Boy' by Muddy Waters and 'Who May Your Lover Be?' by the one and only, great and very unfortunately late Bo Diddley (off 'Hey! Bo Diddley').

lastly and certainly not leastly but naturally, since i can't get a thought out of my ADD-addled head without immediately discerning even the vaguest, flimsiest, almost non-existent, most tenuous associative thread to drugs, films, lit or the Alabama 3 (or AFAIC, best yet: to all simultaneously) here's Captain Paranoid and Larry Love in like a kinda homage to Bo, amongst others. and so...

what's blasting now: 'Who Do You Love?' Larry seems to be having yet another of his rather endearing bi-polar moments in the very identity crisis'd lyrics where he trades lead vocals with Chas and IDs hisself as Bo and Patsy Kline, whilst accusing Chas, rather Captain Paranoid of being Johnny Cash and Bessie Smith. but as far as Larry, is he more Johnny or is he more Bo?

you be the judge and have a care, y'all: please step over me as i try to weep quietly in the corner. *sob* in fact, just ignore me, fankoo. dammit to hell... Bo's been part of my life, my real life, the one i led away from the staid (yet conversely insane) fambly household in Brooklyn once i realised where it was at and especially the discovery that i actually fit in somewhere, felt comfortable with others for the very first time.

nb: the next with apologies to the memory of Bo Diddley as well as a caveat lector: *to self* shit, who the hell would i myself ever have the hubris with whom to ID? i can't even imagine my bit in any conversation with anyone (much less getting up onstage) and casually going (pick one and/or all): 'Hello, I'm William S Burroughs, Bart Simpson, Hunter S Thompson, Edith Piaf, Chrissie Hynde, Max Ernst, Edna St Vincent Millay, Quentin Crisp, Joseph Cornell, TS Eliot, Lenny Bruce, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, Thomas Pynchon – and very rarely (when in barely touched-upon these days) philologist mode, another of my heroes Vladimir Nabokov'.

Bo Diddley: 'I made "Bo Diddley" in ‘55, they started playing it, and everybody freaked out. Caucasian kids threw Beethoven into the garbage can … I opened the door for a lot of people, and they just ran through and left me holding the knob ... I am owed. I’ve never got paid. A dude with a pencil is worse than a cat with a machine gun'.

Bo, you're already missed muchly and as time drags on, your loss will be felt by so many, many, many more, those who overlooked you whilst you were still amongst us. you helped invent the world i live in and as a child, you shaped my views of music, people and the outer world, so totally Rest In Peace, dude. :-(

radio silence, dead air, more death

and it's nobody's biz but my own. and so, i've got nothing to say that i can say, actually. well apart from a coupla stats: dawn's at 04,14 and Mercury will be in retrograde until 19. june. even though i don't believe in stuff like that there've been so many personal communication fuck-ups in the last few days, it's pathetic; big trouble almost happened but an understanding Mark prevailed. anyway, i must watch what i say in the best of times cause Sod's always standing behind me waiting to light up my life.

onto more pleasant things, here's Mike's pics of Alabama 3 Acoustic from sunday, 25. may at Paradise Gardens, Victoria Park. i totally wanted to keep them to myself but i'ze a sharey kinda kitteh so felt guilted in to give. anyway, click to enlarge and i do mean enlarge. check Larry's new look, which i saw up close and personal at Dirty South the other night – i totally love it. and check Rock falling asleep onstage in top pic. *giggle* thanks, Dragnim, dude.

right, back to Mark, i mean, Rock, i was checking his page over here, all happy to see the album price up but in deviousity mode, i mean, i checked the numbers of views and listens. then i looked at my real site's stats. *SIGH!* and bigtime so i printed out january and february's of this year as well as my stats for his music for all of 2007. it's already in an envelope to be sent to him ASAP (that is the next time i venture out into meatspace). consider that yet another kick in your way fine ass, Mark.

moving right along, i've been reading a bit here and there from my William S Burroughs books and came across:

'Perhaps all pleasure is only relief.' – dude! no 'perhaps' about it AFAIC. with me it's like the relief from the agony of existence. i'll quit wittering on that shit cause once i start, i'll never STFU. more Burroughs, one of my fave junkies:

'After one look at this planet any visitor from outer space would say ''I want to see the manager.''...'

'The cat does not offer services. The cat offers itself. Of course he wants care and shelter. You don't buy love for nothing.'

LOL, he said 'CATS'.

back from Brixton – gems from shit

gems from shit? all of which shall be splained later on, prolly in my next post about Dirty South saturday night and in cryptic code of my own devising, but still, it'll serve to remind me. in short, the gems outta the shit were time spent with Techie Boy, my comm with Be Atwell and especially my time spent with Mr and Mrs Ifor The Engine over at theirs. well, maybe a few more – the bits of the Acoustics onstage at Dirty South when i was actually at stage left and not in the girls' room taking free drugs given me by strangers, not chainsmoking whilst weeping on the sidewalk and not telling numerous assholes stuff along these lines.

oh right, another: Freebase guestlisting us and deigning to taxi down with us. i told the driver never to wash the seat on which his ass rested, actually. and there was the lovely lady behind the bar who insisted on giving me a downstairs pass which i actually didn't want nor bother using even though i told her so. but she refused to gimme my vodka until i held out my hand and got the damn purple wristband which is still on my arm through two baths... hmmpf: i not good with scissors or any other pointy things, not allowed to use them when grown-ups aren't around. right, one more thing.

department o' FAIL: woke up 14,00 yesterday way down South of London (Bromley, i think) and failed to make it to Fluffy's film. *sigh* this was me:

but enough about that, no time to talk, got shit to do (and i do mean shit and not the kind from outta yer bum as they say here). but before i take off, here's a little something, consider it a gift although it's been up on Errol's mySpaz and in my iTunes for ages.

backstory: just about a year ago, Be Atwell who was fucking brilliant onstage with Errol T and the Acoustics the other night, came up to Techie-boy's and gave Chris and me a CD with a tune he did with Errol and Larry which, when i first asked for permission to upload, he gave me some cock and bull story about asking Larry first (which i reminded him of the other night). like i'm gonna ask Larry for permission for ANYthing. *snigger* LOL, wait, Larry, i torry! i take it baaaack!

anyway, when i reminded him i've been hanging onto this for ages, he laughed and said 'It's SHIT!' i'm all, 'hey, it's a riot and i know people are gonna wannit'.

Be (shouting at the top of his lungs): 'It's SHIT! SHIT! SHIT, I tell you!...' here's Be just after he said that whilst i was fucking dying, laughing my ass off.

BTW, Be and the very lovely Nicki just had a baby grrl at the beginning of the month. teh silly boy didn't even have a photo of her on him for which (of course) i berated him, trying to make him feel guilty that i myself would have to go without seeing Sophia's cute widdy face from two such beautiful people as Be and Nicki.

ah, right, the supposed shit. *snigger* i fuckin' love it. YOU be the judge.

what's blasting: Wonkey Donkey starring Be Atwell, Errol T and Larry Love. *whispers* i only heard it like 101 times in the past year. so yeah, Be, yer right. i guess i think it's shit too. not. :-)
